【摘要】:Themeansofclosingtheflapsofcorrugatedshippingcontainersisoneoftheimportantdecisionsforashipper.Itmayaffecttheoverallmaterialcost,thelaborcosts,thepackagingequipmentcosts,andtheperformanceoftheboxduringdistribution.Thispracticeprovidesalistofmanyavailableproceduresforclosing,sealing,andreinforcingboxes.Mostofthesedescribeaparticularpackagingmaterialandaparticularuseofitonabox.Somemethodsinvolvepackageperformancetesting;anyclosureorreinforcementwhichpassesprescribedtests(usuallyontheproposedboxandcontents)isconsideredtocomplywiththatsectionofthispractice.Performance-basedmethodsareencouragedbecausetheyallowforconsiderableflexibilityinthechoiceofpackagingmaterialsandmethodsyetprovideassuranceofagivenlevelofperformance.Adiverserangeofmethodsaredescribedinthispracticebutrelativeperformancelevelsarenotgiven.LaboratorypackagetestingsuchasPracticeD4169andfieldexperiencearerecommendedtoratealternativemethodsonperformancefortheintendeduse.Thedescriptionsofmaterialsandmethodsinthispracticeprovidedirectionfortheprocurementofmaterialsandfortheircommonusesonboxes.Thesedescriptionsmaybesufficientforsomespecificationpurposes,butotherswillrequiremorethoroughmaterialandapplicationrequirementsthanthosegivenhere.Thelistofmethodsinthispracticeisnotexhaustive;deviationorvariationfromthelistedmethodsispossiblewiththeapprovaloftheappropriatepartiesreferencingthispractice.Dependingonthecharacteristicsofthecontents,thespecificshippingcontainer,theacceptablepackagecosts,thedistributionhazards,andthedesireddegreeofassuranceofsuccessfulshipment,morestringentmethodsthanthoselistedmaybeneededorlessstringentmethodsthanthoselistedmaybeadequate.Themethodsdescribedaretypicalusesoftheclosure,reinforcing,orsealingmaterials;manyofthesematerialscanbeusedforotherboxstylesorothermethodsonboxesbutallofthesearenotincludedinthispractice.Materialsforboxclosure,reinforcement,orsealingarecommerciallyavailablewhichhavehigherorlowerperformancecharacteristicsthanthoselistedinthispractice;thesemayoftenbeusedinalesserorgreaterquantitythanthedescribedapplicationsofthelistedmaterials.Thispracticeassumesthefollowing:Theshippingcontainerandinnerpackingareproperlydesignedforthecontentsandthedistributionhazards(seePracticesD4169andD5118/D5118M),Normal,reasonablecareistakeninshipment,includingstorage,handling,loading,andbracing,andNormal,reasonablecareistakenintheapplicationoftheclosure,reinforcing,orsealingmaterialstotheshippingcontainer.1.1Thispracticedescribesseveralmethodsforclosing,sealing,andreinforcingfiberboard(solidandcorrugated,excludingtriplewall)shippingboxesusedforshipment.Oneorseveralmethodslistedinthispracticemaybereferencedinregulations,specifications,orcontracts.(SeeAppendixforcrossreference).1.2ThevaluesstatedineitherSIunitsorinch-poundunitsaretoberegardedseparatelyasstandard.Thevaluesstatedineachsystemmaynotbeexactequivalents;therefore,eachsystemshallbeusedindependentlyoftheother.Combiningvaluesfromthetwosystemsmayresultinnon-conformancewiththestandard.Note18212;Thispracticeisintendedtobeworkableinbothinch-poundu......
